About WaveFreaks

Wavefreaks Surf Academy Ltd offers surf lessons and body board lessons to people of all ages. It is run by Phil Locke and Terry Crump.

Ever wanted to learn to surf? Here's the perfect opportunity to learn to surf in the UK! WaveFreaks Surf Academy are offering you the ability to learn at Europe's First Artificial Surf Reef in Bournemouth. Wavefreaks is a BSA approved Surfing School.

All lessons are taught by fully qualified BSA level 2 instructors. Wavefreaks Surf instructors are local legends and can even teach experienced surfers a new trick or two!

Bournemouth is a great south coast surfing destination and a day at surf school offers a great introduction to surfing. Don't worry if you have never surfed before you are not required to already know a toes-on-the-nose manoeuvre; the only requirement is to have loads of fun!

Ideal for novices and intermediates, a day with 'Wavefreaks' will get you standing and surfing before the day is out. In a 2 hour lesson we aim to have you standing, surf willing! Expert instructors will fill you in on surfers secrets of how to paddle out, read the ocean, catch a wave and how to control your body to stand up.

'Wavefreaks' will normally take you out to Boscombe Pier where the waves are perfect for those learning the art of surfing. With Europe's first artificial reef being built in Bournemouth, you can now learn to surf at some of the best waves on the south coast. Lessons are structured to take the absolute beginner from surfing zero to wave riding hero and your instructor will offer a lifetime of accumulated surfing tips, technical info and practical surf wizardry to get the most out of the day.

PHIL LOCKE
Age: 32
Phil is a qualified beach lifeguard and British Surf Association (BSA) qualified surf coach Level 2 and teaches at Wavefreaks Surf School in Bournemouth. Phil has surfed all over the world during the past 17 years and gave surfing lessons in California for 3 years. Taking inspiration from his experiences he wanted to teach surfing in England and the "Wavefreaks" name was born. Phil has also inspired the LEA to bring surfing to after school activities in Dorset.

TERRY CRUMP
Age: 30
Terry is the 4 times South Coast Surf Champion and has been surfing since he was 12 yrs old. Over the last 14 years he has surfed throughout Europe, Australia and Indonesia. Terry is a Level 2 British Surf Association surf instructor and is sponsored by UWL surfboards, SNUGG wetsuits, Dekine and Ironfist. Terry frequently features in surf magazines across Europe and is the Chairman of the Wessex Surf Club.
